The erosion of checks and balances

Today I wrote a letter to Harry Reid, the Senate Minority Leader. Maybe you should, too.

>Dear Senator,

> I am deeply concerned about the possible confirmation of Samuel Alito as a Supreme Court Justice. Mr. Alito’s stated support for the theory of the unitary executive and his record as a judge are extremely troubling in light of the Bush administration’s waxing powers and contempt of Congress. I fear that, if confirmed, Mr. Alito will weaken the checks and balances on the executive branch. I urge you to call for a filibuster of his confirmation. Please do not let him be confirmed. Thank you for your time and service.

> Sincerely,
> Dan Winckler

Yes, I know, I use the word ‘waxing’ in conversation and correspondence. Sir Dork-a-lot, that’s me.
