Days
Terse it will have to be then, as I’m feeling uninspired (o, tragedy).
Friday: Bob’s show Anchor’s Away at the PIT was excellent. The show following it, less so (funny voices, old bits). Went to Tekserve and bought Panther. Free wine, dixieland jazz band, excellent conversation with employee about different video standards and their effects on the creative process of filmmakers. Home to install Panther and much rejoicing over Expos?ÉÀÜ.
Saturday: playing with computer, talking to Beth, completely forgetting about Neutrino rehearsal. To Klepto for Funny Women Fest show featuring Bevy, Black & Tan, and excerpts from a one-woman show. Improv excellent, different; one-woman show less so. iPAQ notes:
Bevy great: seemingly free form with strong organics, transformational edits, and lots of top connections. B & T very un-game, conversational, and black. Noticed my non-resonance with certain cultural behaviors (e.g., loud, playful arguing). Great build, deep characters. Roeder stuff pretty banal but well-played stock characters–tight, at the least. Three shows is still too much, needs very energetic hosting to get an audience through something that long without intermission. Sat with Asaf, Bob and Jill while the last two were stuffing their faces with Mexican.(They asked politely of the ticket-seller if they could eat their dinner in the audience and one of the Funny Women organizers broke in and (not knowing Bob) warned them of the high chances they might be ‘torn up’ for chewing loudly–’it’s improv! nobody knows what could happen!’ Bob’s show last night was amazing–so different from previous version (UCB run). Bob in a suit at a desk and standing and some projected stills–that’s it. Very personal stories of learning and growth: shame and self-denial, arrogant mistakes–expensive lessons. Emailed to thank me and I told him ‘theatre at its best is sacred; and last night it was.’ 10/25 From Hogfather (hilarious): ‘Besides, it was nice to hear the voices of little children at play, provided you took care to be far enough away not to hear what they were actually saying.’
Lesson: What started as a forced bare account of the past few days flourishes into a decent journal entry. Remember this, Mr. Winckler.

Saturday night: Tara’s prom party. Very fun; kilt was a big hit. Got a ride home from Brooksann and Charles–such sweethearts.
Sunday: Surfing. Starting to get bitterly cold, buying wetsuit soon. Hard to paddle out–must do more pushups. Didn’t get bonked this time.

the aerial theater in houston lets you take food from the associated restaurant into the cinema. the pistachio crusted chicken is awesome, at least, it was a few years ago when i was there. it is fun to have dinner during the movie.
