Keyworx
Today, I started learning how to use Keyworx.org, an open-source program for interactive video and VJ-ing. The quickstart guide and Quicktime tutorial included with the software were very well-written and programmed, respectively, and gave a good first look at what seems to be a very flexible, powerful program, created by and for visual artists. The interface looks a bit enigmatic at first, but that’s because it eschews traditional video iconography in favor of a unique, forceful visual metaphor of spirals and balls (here’s a screenshot). Changes and connections between modules are made by drag ‘n’ drop, mainly, though other shortcuts are available. Like few others, Keyworx is designed for multi-user collaboration via network or internet and, get this, it can grab images with a Google Images query with just a few clicks (as opposed to laborious coding). I am very impressed and very much looking forward to exploring Keyworx further — and using it at this Sunday’s SHARE. Thanks again, Eric.
P.S. Check out the latest monster to attack Japan. My cousin, Dave, who’s a meteorologist, sent the link to my dad who sent it to me. Now I’m to bed. Night!
