Making spaces

The Make blog has really taken off lately, in quantity and quality of posts. I saw so many inspiring projects on there today. For instance, a 20 year old French gentleman has made a PHP-based MMORPG (Massively Multiplayer Online Role-Playing Game) authoring tool. What this means, Mom and Dad, is that you can create an online game that many, many people can play at once. As the original poster says, anything that lowers the bar for game creation is a good thing. The bar will probably have to come down a bit further before I try any of my gameworld ideas, such as making a gallery/playspace for Share. I’ve thought about doing it in Second Life…but I still haven’t dug into SL much. Hmmm.

Someone on the MAX/MSP listserv said something that stuck with me:

>please don’t make me happy.
>make me cookies, make me bread, make me breakfast, make my bed. >just don’t make me happy.
>you can make a tool so I can create things that will make me happy. >if that makes you happy, great. but you get no credit for my happiness.

>unless you make me cookies. then you will get credit for my happiness.

It sounds like something from a Shel Silverstein book on dating.

p.s.

Yay! The Long Now got my email about the torrent I made of all their seminar recordings and linked to my torrent from their seminars page. I’m happy to support the Long Now Foundation.
