WELL, well, well, giraffe
Over on The WELL (one of the oldest fora on the web), Bruce Sterling is doing/has done his annual Q & A, which is worth reading for anyone who likes discussing where the world is going.
I’m thinking about radically restructuring this site. Any thoughts?
It occurred to me the other day that the “podcast” phenomenon, where someone came up with a good marketing term to go with some easy-to-use tools to do something people have been doing on the web for a while, namely, sharing large audio and files, has happened before — we called it “blogging”. A “blog” is a regularly updated website. That’s it. It’s just when a few good content management systems came along (and a good marketing word…) that the “blog” phenomenon took off.
This site, like many things today, is an uneasy/enlightened hybrid. A bastard amalgam. It seems like when I cut off/taxonomize one part of my endeavours, e.g., my vid blog or my visuals subsite, it slows, atrophies and starts Cheyne-Stoking. I’d prefer homeostasis. I’d rather that the divisions were fluid, flexible, dynamic and user-modifiable, like the tags on del.icio.us. I want an exquisite corpse that can bend over backwards, jump through hoops and surprise me. What is the sound of one hand transforming into a gun? Khee-khak-koo-cra-kra-keek!
Can I adapt my Movable Type setup to do this? Probably. Would it be easier to start from scratch with WordPress? Possibly. Seen any really, really good exquisite corpse-style sites? Please share your thoughts with me on possibly switching CMS and making this “web presence” more dynamic.

How did you come up with the term “Cheyne-Stokes”? Did you get that from me?
Suggestion for the blog: Oh, never mind. Who needs more about Ma.

yes, i learned about cheyne-stokes breaking from you, mom. and no, self-aggrandisement of the non-Dan variety is not on the redesign table.
