Tools I’ve made

Tools I would recommend

  • For live visual performance, VDMX and Modul8 (both Mac only). On Windows, I’ve heard good things about Resolume, Visual Jockey and VJAMM but haven’t used them. On Linux, I would recommend Pure Data.
  • For rapid prototyping and experimentation with new media, including live visual performance, Max/MSP/Jitter or Pure Data. Max costs money and has terrific documentation and tutorials. PD is free but the documentation needs a lot of work.
  • For batch-processing and converting your video for performance, ffmpegX.
